EXISTING AND FUTURE FLOODPLAIN MAPPING PROGRAMS

The State of California has initated a new floodplain mapping program to assist all communities with initial identification of flood hazard areas currently not mapped by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The purpose of the mapping program is to reduce flood damages and provide public safety through the identification of flood hazard areas. This program is sustained through the Department of Water Resources Floodplain Management Program authorities with the added support of available federal agency programs and the use of contracting to provide some of the techincal products needed to complete this program.
